VEO Europa Partnership Meeting
Our partners from the UK, Bulgaria, Finland and Turkey met for a transnational meeting hosted by our German partners in the Karlsruhe University of Education on the 16th and 17th February. With a packed agenda, it was a busy and productive two days.
Sharing our research
2017 has been busy so far, with our partner researchers sharing aspects of the VEO Europa project far and wide – Turkey, USA and Switzerland in January alone! See our conferences page for full details.
Partner Skype Meeting
Another productive meeting with our VEO Europa partners. The UK partners had coffee for their ‘breakfast’ meeting, but it was almost lunch time in Ankara!
Topics from today’s meeting ranged from project updates to forward planning agenda items for our next face-to-face meeting in Karlsruhe to discussing dissemination activities and conferences. A busy meeting!
Custom Tag Sets
Part of the flexibility of the VEO app that we use in the VEO Europa project is the ability to create custom tag sets so that video-enhanced observation is customised to the objectives of the participants. As well as the standard education tag set, the language learning tag set and other tag sets provided in the app, participants can create their own tag sets to support their work with students e.g. creating exam board assessment criteria for practical projects.
VEO Europa Training Video Playlist
We are continuing to develop and refine our training resources for teachers. These microlearning videos cover a range of VEO features from the basics of logging on to creating custom tag sets. The YouTube playlist will continue to develop over time.
Flexible recording
Our research teams have been trying out different ways to position iPads for flexible use in the classroom. Where most people use a protective iPad case with integral stand, some of our researchers have also been working effectively with different size tripods. They’re not essential to using the VEO app, but may allow for more flexibility when used as part of a peer observation, work with students, or self-recording followed by retrospective tagging. The gooseneck clamp is an inexpensive alternative, allowing the iPad to be secured to a shelf or table, with the flexibility of the neck for positioning and repositioning during use.
Introducing VEO at MTTEP conference in Bergen
Last week Isabel Murillo Wilstermann (University of Kiel) and Mareike Oesterle (Karlsruhe University of Education) introduced the VEO App at the MTTEP conference at Bergen University College. In the context of integrating mobile technologies into the preparation or training of professionals in education, various possibilities of and perspectives on using the VEO App in different educational settings were discussed in an workshop (“The use of mobile technologies for teacher training purposes: challenges, risks and learning potential of using Video Enhanced Observation (VEO)”). Many thanks to the MTTEP project team for very interesting key note speakers, workshops and discussion groups, as well as establishing such a great platform of networking and exchanging ideas regarding the use of mobile technologies in schools as well as in Higher Education!
VEO Europa Partners meet in Ankara, Turkey.
The VEO strategic partnership had a very productive VEO Europa Consortium meeting on 13-15 July in Ankara, Turkey. Discussions about where we are and what activities we will do in the near future took place. Many thanks to our colleagues Olcay Sert and Merve Bozbiyik for organizing such a great session!
VEO Europa on the News!
We are proud to inform our community of teachers, researchers and practitioners that VEO Europa Turkey has been featured in local newspapers today in Habertürk and on Türkiye! This is fantastic for the VEO Europa strategic partnership and teachers, so we send our colleagues in Turkey, Olcay Sert and Merve Bozbiyik a big BRAVO! Thank you for your wonderful work!
